Presentation

This department aims to train professionals with a different view of Mathematics, so that they do not perceive it as an obstacle or complication where only formulas or theorems are learned, but also know where they come from and what is intended to be done with them in their careers and jobs.

It also seeks that teachers adapt to the profile of the schools. In Computer Science they must know how to program; in Industrial, Accounting and Administration they must be mathematicians who are proficient in Statistics, Algebra, Geometry; while in Education and Psychology a teacher with knowledge in Methodology is required.
The Department has three lines of research: Mathematical Modeling, where the properties developed in Analysis, Algebra, Applied Mathematics, Geometry and Topology are analyzed. This allows obtaining a solution to a specific problem that serves as mathematical support in the analysis of phenomenon within a research.

In Statistics, researchers provide methods and procedures to analyze a series of observations, as well as to make inferences from them in order to make decisions and/or formulate predictions. In Didactics of University Mathematics, the aim is to optimize and improve the processes of teaching mathematics.
